Platform is a 4-acre collection of shops, pop-ups and eateries in Culver City, nestled right under the Metro rail line. Anchored in the corner is Hayden, namesake of the neighborhood and led by Chef Ari Kolender, a James Beard Rising Chef award semi-finalist.
The folks at the Runyon Group found us in the final hours before opening: limited timeline, limited budget. A typical red flag prompting a polite "no thank you" from us, but we got drawn in by the excitement and good nature of the Kolender brothers.
We struck on a concept of surf and sunrise meets tinned fish and Japanese matchbook vibes that tied everything together, and in record time. Excitement was high enough to have us paint a giant mural along the exterior wall, which we couldn't pass up.
